DGVa: Quick tour

چکیده
What is the DGVa? The Database of Genomic Variants archive [2] (DGVa) is a public catalogue of structural variation found in the genomes of individuals within a species. Why do we need the DGVa? In recent years there have been unprecedented advances in the technologies that characterise genomic variation, and it is well known that variation at the single nucleotide level is abundant across the genomes of all species. However, it is becoming clear that genomic structural variation [3] accounts for more of the individual differences at the base pair [4] level in humans and is likely to play a major role in disease. Two other areas of research that are becoming increasingly important in this field are discovering how genomic structural variation affects an individual's characteristics, and understanding the role that genomic structural variation has played in the evolution of species. The DGVa catalogues, stores and freely disseminates this important class of genomic variation in any species, providing a valuable resource to a large community of researchers (Figure 1).

Much has changed in the last two years at DGVa (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/dgva) and dbVar (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/dbvar). We are now processing direct submissions rather than only curating data from the literature and our joint study catalog includes data from over 100 studies in 11 organisms. Studies from human dominate with data from control and case populations, tumor samples as well as thre...
متن کاملUniProt-GOA: Quick tour
The Gene Ontology (GO [5]) is a dynamic controlled vocabulary [6] that details the biological processes, molecular functions and cellular components of a generic cell. The UniProt-Gene Ontology Annotation (UniProt-GOA [7]) project uses GO to describe proteins in UniProtKB [8]. The project has assigned GO terms to all complete and incomplete proteomes that exist in UniProtKB, using a combination...
متن کاملA Quick Tour of Word Sense Disambiguation, Induction and Related Approaches
Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) and Word Sense Induction (WSI) are two fundamental tasks in Natural Language Processing (NLP), i.e., those of, respectively, automatically assigning meaning to words in context from a predefined sense inventory and discovering senses from text for a given input word. The two tasks have generally been hard to perform with high accuracy. However, today innovations ...
